The place
behind the photo.
A short but genuinely steep scramble up a karst ridge north of town. The last section is loose rock and tree roots rather than steps. At the top a motorbike is parked on an outcrop, which is the photograph most people are here for, and the view over the Nam Song valley is the reason to stay longer than the photo takes.
Getting there.
About 6 km north of town on the east bank. Scooter is the usual way; a tuk-tuk can drop you and wait.
Good to know.
Take the climb slowly in the wet season — the rock is slick and there is no railing. Cash only at the gate. Allow 40 minutes up and 30 down.
